The Cape Winelands is possible to visit as a day trip whilst staying in Cape Town. However to really appreciate the area we would recommend at least 1 or 2 nights here. Stellenbosch is the second oldest town and is a popular student town. Staying in the town you can stroll to the restaurants, shops and museums.
The village of Franschhoek is nestled in a valley and surrounded by mountains, making this a really beautiful setting. Nick-named the ‘gastronomic’ capital of South Africa a visitor is spoilt for choice of approximately 130 restaurants to choose from.
The Paarl, Wellington and Tulbagh regions of the Winelands has a country feel to it with small towns and fresh mountain air.
Somerset West and the Helderberg Winelands is also surrounded by the Hottentots Mountains and nearby is the sea-side towns of Gordon’s Bay and Strand.
Staying in the Winelands is an alternative to those not wanting the hustle and bustle of the city, but still be relatively close to get there for a visit. Most of the areas are in a 40 minute to 1 hour drive from Cape Town and the airport.
