Umhlanga and its beaches with warm Indian Ocean waters lies only 20 minutes from King Shaka Airport in Durban. There is a warm climate throughout most of the year and nearly to the beaches you can explore the Drakensberg Mountains. Spend a few nights in the Drakensberg doing hikes, visiting the various craft routes or just soaking up the fresh mountain air.
The Battlefields area takes you to a bygone era where history of South Africa was formed – hear about the stories of King Shaka and his warriors fighting the British soldiers and whilst sitting on the land with this all took place. Local guides make the story interesting even for those less interested in history.
The area north of Durban offers not only great game view opportunities but also unspoilt beaches in remote areas. The little ‘island’ village of St Lucia is a popular holiday destination with a real African feel – even the hippos roam the village at night!
