Southern Africa is an all year round holiday destination and depending on the season and which areas you visit, we can assure you of a great African holiday anytime of the year.
The best time to visit the regions of Cape Town
, Garden Route
and Eastern Cape (safaris) is during the summer months from September through to April. These are the high season months and it can get busy, especially over the Christmas period, so do book early. If you are flexible with when to travel we can recommend the months of October and March going into April as it's a little quieter and weather is usually still great.
The northern regions of southern Africa have summer rainfall and the best months are from May through to October. In South Africa you can also benefit from low season deals until at least September at most of the safari lodges. Keep in mind too that the neighbouring countries of Namibia
, Botswana Mozambique , and Victoria Falls are all in their high season during this time, so we do recommend that you book early for these regions.

Getting there and getting around
|
|
|
Getting to South Africa is easy with a variety of airlines offering direct daily flights from London and other European cities into Cape Town and Johannesburg. To reach the neighbouring countries of Botswana, Victoria Falls, Mozambique and Namibia you would usually need to fly into Johannesburg and connect onto a flight from here, although Namibia do have flights from London into Windhoek.
The public transport network is a far cry from European standards and practically non-existent in remote areas, so we highly recommend to hire a car when travelling South Africa and Namibia. The road network is generally good and driving is on the left. Have a look at our car hire pages for an idea of the prices. Hiring a driver is also possible but it can get costly as you would need to cover all their accommodation and food expenses whilst travelling as well. The other option is to join a guided tour; the limitations of this is that you are bound by the schedule of the group, but it can also be a sociable way of travelling.
Getting around within South Africa is also easy and if you wanting to combine for example; Cape Town and the Kruger regions - it's possible with daily flights between major towns. There are also a number of 'no frill' airlines that offer great deals not only within South Africa but also to Victoria Falls and Mozambique.
Connecting into the more remote regions of Southern Africa, like Mozambique, Victoria Falls and some parts of Botswana usually involves a charter flight as the road networks are not yet as developed here yet. Although these services are slightly more expensive, the unique wilderness experience of 'off the beaten track' areas far outweighs the cost.
We realise that this can all sound very over-whelming, but it's really not very difficult at all to connect between the Southern Africa countries. Let us take the head-ache of logistics away from you and email us
or give us a call on 0207 112 0019 (UK) or contact our South African office on +27 (0)21 8433662 for help and guidance.

Expert local advice and personal service
|
|
|
We have the advantage of having an office in South Africa and the advice plus recommendations are from a local's personal experience, living in South Africa. The lodges that we recommend are visited as often as possible to ensure that they meet the Fleewinter standards.
Whilst we have included a selection of itinerary suggestions to help you with ideas of what to do and budgeting, no itinerary for a client is ever the same. We tailor each holiday to suite an individual's interests, time and budget. There are popular routes to do but by changing accommodation, length of stay etc, we will put together your own personal African safari holiday.
Pricing of lodges and game reserves vary drastically and from a first impression some options may seem pricey, but by combining a selection of some quality yet reasonably priced options with one or two more expensive, it is possible to enjoy a reasonably priced African safari.
Southern Africa as a destination is regularly offering many travel deals and it is impossible to feature all of them so do
email us or give us a call on 0207 112 0019 (UK) or contact our South African office on +27 (0)21 843 3362 for help to put together the perfect African safari holiday.
