Traditionally as a destination Namibia is not seen as the first choice for a safari holiday and the focus is certainly not on the 'big five'. However, the northern regions of the Etosha National Park, Caprivi and Damaraland / Palmwag areas do offer some great game viewing. Due to the desert climate, the rare desert elephant and desert rhino is also to be found - animals that have adapted to survive with little water and extreme heat.
You will see antelope all through Namibia - on a visit to the Sossusvlei dunes you will be sure to see Gemsbok (Oryx), Springbok and possibly even a desert fox. The focus however in the central and southern regions of Namibia is more on the scenery than animal sighting.
