Uluwatu lies in the southern extremity of Bali in the regency of Badung and takes its name after the famous temple called Pura Luhur Uluwatu, dedicated to the power of the sea. The ancient temple itself is an architectonic wonder on the black coralline rock. Uluwatu has become known these last few years for its spectacular sites, with massive breakers crashing down below the overhanging cliff-tops, where surfers lounge around in surf shacks perched on the rocks, waiting to ride the waves. |
