Fleewinter reveals two new Moroccan Gems

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011

Specialist villa holidays to Morocco operator Fleewinter has added two new properties to its portfolio – Kasbah Angour in the High Atlas Mountains and Riad Mumtaz on the Atlantic coast – taking the total number of riads and boutique hotels within its portfolio to over 200.

Kasbah Angour – which is only bookable through Fleewinter in the UK – is a converted Berber castle with 21 rooms and 4 suites – commanding panoramic views from its elevated position on a hill top, of the highest peaks in the Atlas including Toubkal Massiv, the highest mountain in North Africa.

The property, which is 30 minutes’ drive from Marrakech, has a large swimming pool and manicured gardens and is constructed from traditional Moroccan materials including red sandstone, clay tiles from Meknes and cedar wood from the Middle Atlas Mountains.

All bedrooms have under floor heating, air conditioning and large en suite bathrooms.  The restaurant, uses the best local produce from Berber villages plus vegetables and fruit from the hotel’s own gardens, and there are terraces for or a pre-dinner drink or to eat al fresco.

Local activities on offer include Marrakech tours, guided walks (half or full day), cycling and mule treks, all of which can be organised by the hotel or with Fleewinter at the time of booking.  Stays cost from £50 pp per night (two sharing) on a B&B basis.

Riad Mumtaz Mahal is centrally located in the heart of Essaouira’s ancient Medina and just a short stroll from the beach and local fish restaurants.  The original building was constructed in 1880 and over the last 4 years has been carefully restored and converted into a stylish boutique hotel.

All of the riad’s 10 bedrooms are the same price but completely different in style – so much so that Fleewinter’s website has a picture of each so that people can choose the one they most like the design of.

Riad Mumtaz also has a spa, with a steam room and massage rooms plus there is a large atrium with a heated plunge pool and there is a roof terrace with views of the town and beach.  Rooms cost from £70 pp per night (two sharing) on a B&B basis.

A decent flight and the finest Riad in Marrakech! – 3 nights from £390 pp

Contrary to exaggerated reports in some newspapers, Morocco remains extremely safe to visit and does not share the political grievances of other countries in the region.  In fact Prince Charles is visiting in a few days’ time.

From 1 April, B.A. resumes flights to Marrakech from Gatwick, ending the necessity to travel with Easyjet or Ryanair.

Why not combine a pleasant flying experience with a stay at arguably the finest riad in the Marrakech Medina, Riad Meriem?  The five-roomed property is owned by famous New York designer Thomas Hayes and has been described by House & Garden as one of the most beautifully designed hotels in the world.

The property was furnished with a no-expense spared brief, and it shows.  Morocco villa holidays specialist Fleewinter, is offering three-night breaks from £390 pp (2 sharing, B&B) including flights with British Airways and transfers.

British Airways returns to Morocco after 3 year absence

Thursday, January 13th, 2011

Morocco has been an increasingly popular destination in recent years for Brits who enjoy the wide choice of luxurious riads and hotels available, particularly in Marrakech and Essaouira, and also for those who have been investing in a riad of their own, such as actress Stephanie Beacham, who has a property on the Atlantic coast (bookable though Fleewinter).

Morocco is closer to the UK than many European destinations (under 3 hours) yet it is like arriving in another world and, because it is outside the Eurozone, the country is considerably cheaper than many others.

However, those who prefer to stay in some of Morocco’s more luxurious accommodation were horrified in March 2008 to see British Airways drop the London-Marrakech route, having sold their aircraft to Easyjet.

Three years of Easyjet and Ryanair ensued but as of 1 April 2011 (exactly 3 years later) British Airways will re-commence flying to Marrakech from Gatwick.

UK operator Fleewinter has hundreds of properties to choose from both in the cities and on the coast, including Riad Meriem, arguably the most stylish riad in the whole of Marrakech.  The riad, which sleeps 10 people in five bedrooms, is owned by famous New York designer Thomas Hayes, who spared no expenses in decorating the property with Moroccan antiques and artefacts (the property was also described by House & Garden as one of the most beautifully designed hotels in the world).

Be one of the first to experience British Airways’ new route and take advantage of Fleewinter three-night breaks to Riad Meriem from £390 pp (2 sharing) including flights, transfers, and B&B accommodation.

New Year in Marrakech – 4 nights from £265 pp

Monday, November 29th, 2010

Why not enjoy a New Year’s Eve with a difference this year in exotic Marrakech?  The vibrant city is only three hours from the UK yet it feels like another world. Fleewinter has a wide choice of accommodation including Dar Jaguar, an ancient riad which has been completely restored as a stylish, private guesthouse.

It is situated in the heart of the old medina in Marrakech, neighbouring the Place des Epices (spice market) and less than five minutes’ walk from the Jemaa el Fna Square, which bursts into life at dusk every evening when the musicians, fire eaters, snake charmers and food vendors arrive.

The price of a four night break on a B&B basis over New Year is from £265 pp (2 sharing), including airport transfers (flights not included but low cost operators Easyjet and Ryanair both fly to Marrakech).  Call 020 7112 0019 (www.fleewinter.com).
