Camps Bay – the Jewel in the Crown of Cape Town

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

With the arrival of the Indian Premier League cricket and the impending arrival of the FIFA World Cup in 2010 Cape Town is suddenly the place to be and, more precisely, Camps Bay – the jewel in the crown and the playground of film stars, rock stars, models and socialites.
Such is the exchange rate of the Rand versus the Pound that anyone can enjoy a holiday in this stunning corner of Africa, which is located just behind Table Mountain, nestled beneath the majestic Twelve Apostles, and boasting a magnificent palm fringed sandy beach.
Whilst Cape Town has a good selection of the usual international hotel chains, specialist UK operator Fleewinter has hundreds of superb villas and apartments, many with private swimming pools. Having your own living space has many advantages over a hotel; not least total privacy and not having to worry about the noise the kids make. It also offers in most cases, much better value for money with the good hotels charging around £200 per room per night versus £200 per person for a whole week in a luxurious apartment or villa.
Camps Bay for Couples
Casa is a complex of perfectly positioned luxury one bedroom apartments with great views and a shared swimming pool and just a few metres from Camps Bay’s cafes, restaurants and the beach. With everything so near there is almost no reason to leave the area. The en suite apartments have separate kitchens and dining rooms and cost from £380 per person per week.

Camps Bay for Families
Oceane Loft is an excellent choice for a family on a budget. The two-bedroomed (both with en suite), split level, air-conditioned loft apartment is situated in a tranquil, secure complex in the heart of Camps Bay. Perfectly located, high enough for spectacular panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and the magnificent 12 Apostle Mountain Range but still within walking distance of the spectacular Camps Bay beaches and restaurants. There is one double bedroom and one twin plus an additional sofa bed in the lounge for a third child. There is a communal pool and also a paddling pool for toddlers. A week’s rent costs from £175 per person per week

Camps Bay for groups of friends
Houghton Villa is a superb five-bedroomed (5 bathrooms) villa and is the stylish way for a group of friends to party and enjoy the sunshine of Camps Bay. It has the best of everything; plenty of space, privacy, ocean, beach and mountain views as well as being within walking distance of the beachfront where the main shops, boutiques, cafés, bars and restaurants are. There is a large private pool and seating for 10 people both inside and out for meals. The price of a week’s rental is from £250 per person per week.

Fleewinter specialises in offering a concierge-style service with international and regional flights, car-hire, private chauffeurs, restaurant/concert/sporting bookings and baby sitting all available on request. Booking through Fleewinter is the same price (or cheaper) than booking direct and its AITO membership means 100% financial protection.

In addition to Cape Town and the Garden Route Fleewinter also offers holidays to Mexico, Brazil, Bali, Barbados, the Maldives, Morocco, Norway, Sri Lanka, St. Lucia, Thailand and Tobago.

Cheap Morocco Flights

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Everyone like to knock the low cost airlines these days and admittedly their policy of charging for every hiccup is maddening, but I have to say I am big fan.  Unlike most tour operators we don’t mind if client book flights themselves and whilst I wish we still had BA running the Marrakech route for people who don’t want to start their Morocco holiday with a rush to grab a seat, I think the budget guys provide a fantastic service and enable you to fit in 2 holiday for the price on 1 normal one.  For example I have just booked 5 days in December for my family of 4 for £280 flying Gatwick/Marrakech with Easyjet.  Add in £400 for an apartment in Essaouira (great at that time of year) and that is a £170 per person.  What an amazing price for a family holiday.

PS Top tip.  When travelling with a family book speedy boarding for 1 person only to bag seats together Saves £42 for a family of 4 and makes getting seat together a cinch.

Marrakech Riads for Real Morocco Holidays

Friday, May 8th, 2009

I have just returned from inspecting some new hotels in Marrakech and slightly by accident visited one of the typical 4 star package hotel on the edge of town.  As a rule we avoid large tourist hotels and there can no destination where the contrast between the places favoured by the package operators and those preferred by us is more stark.  In Marrakech we offer beautiful converted merchant houses called riads which are run as little stylish boutique hotels.  Ok, they often don’t have minibar or 24 room service but the style and individuality compared the ghastly stack of boxes with beige swirly carpet more than makes up for the difference.  But more importantly you are a part of real Morocco not a tourist ghetto hidden away.  Maybe I am holiday snob but a Marrakech Riad is the only way to have a proper Morocco holiday (oh, and the price is about 30% less as well!)
