Areas of Cape Town...
Destination guide

One of the attractions of Cape Town is its ability to suit everyone, but the diversity means you need to make sure you choose the right location. Here's our guide to the main areas.

  Bloubergstrand & Milnerton

Fast rising up the popularity stakes is Bloubergstrand. Fabulous beaches and loads of space mean that this a favourite for families and people looking for good value for money. Also a watersports mecca for participants and spectators alike. Very good location for access to the city, the airport and the Winelands and great shopping and restaurants. Oh, and there's that famous view.

City Bowl & De Waterkant

Nestling on the slopes of Table Mountain, but within easy striking distance of the city centre is the City Bowl area - great for those who want to be strolling distance from the bars and restaurants. Stay higher up for great views of the city and Table Bay. On the lower side of the city is the hidden gem that is De Waterkant. A village-life feel and the trendiest part of the city centre is a great place to stay for more of an urban feel.

THE V&A WATERFRONT

An increasingly popular place to stay are the apartments and hotels by the V&A Waterfront. These are a short stroll from the shops and restaurants of what has become Africa's most popular tourist destination. You are only a few minutes from the city centre in one direction, and beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay in the other. Our apartments are all in the marina itself and the standard is superb - genuine 5 star. A big attraction of the area is that it is the only place in Cape Town when you do not have to bother with hire car as so much is in walking distance and other transport is easy to arrange

Atlantic Seaboard

The area from the V&A south along the coast is known as the Atlantic Seaboard. First you have the coastal drives of Mouille POInt Green Point and then Three Anchor Bay. Next is the high developed and buzzing Sea Point with plenty of apartments of all standards. After Sea Point you enter the posh suburbs of Bantry Bay and Clifton where the quality and price of accommodation head up. Clifton is the original millionaires row location with villa's and apartments hanging on the cliffs above the four wind-protected beaches. Prices are on a par with Camps Bay - and is maybe even more exclusive.

Camps Bay

Camps Bay is the most popular place to stay in Cape Town. The reasons for this are good; stunning scenery, beautiful beaches and the famous run of restaurants - all only 10 minutes from the city centre. You are well positioned to see all the sights around Cape Town and it is an ideal area for couples of any age and extended families sharing a large villa. The downside is that it becomes more popular every year and prices are at a premium but we have developed a superb portfolio of places to stay and we are rarely stumped for the perfect option.

LLANDUDNO

Going south from Camps Bay you first come to the village of Llandudno, with a gorgeous beach, peaceful environment, and some very smart villas. There are no shops or restaurants but the beach is absolutely beautiful and well worth a visit for a break from the more hectic Camps Bay. Properties tend to be large with stunning views and a very high standard. Price match.

HOUT BAY/KOMMETJE

From Llandudno it is 5 minutes over the hill and down to Hout Bay, a small fishing town with a very different atmosphere to Cape Town. The safe beach is perfect for families and there is a great selection of restaurants and cafes. Beyond Hout Bay is the famous Chapmans Peak Drive and then into Nord Hoek And Kommetje with big open beaches and a relaxed pace of life

Constantia

Strewn over the east-facing slopes of Table Mountain is Cape Towns original Wineland area and whilst there are still a few vineyards, this is the area for the biggest villas and manor houses. Compared to the coastal locations you get much more space and privacy and this is probably the most central location you can be in for doing everything in the Cape Town area.

False Bay

False Bay sweeps east from the Cape Peninsula into the Indian Ocean. The waters are warmer and calmer and provide some of the safest bathing around Cape Town. There are various accommodation options at either end of the Bay and it can be very good value.

At the Cape Point end you can stay in Simon's Town or Fish Hoek with their stunning scenery and proximity to Cape Point and the Penguins at Boulders Beach. At the eastern end are the villages of Strand and Gordon's Bay with its pretty harbour and just 15 minutes from the Winelands.

Winelands

You don't have to do stay by the beach or in the city to enjoy Cape Town. Stretching out in an arc to the east of the city is Africa's greatest winegrowing region. Here you can stay in a country estate or in one of the small winegrowing towns of Stellenbosch, Franschhoek or Somerset West. It is peaceful and quiet but you are still not more than 50 to 60 minutes from the centre of Cape Town. Some clients chose a week by the coast then second week (or even just a few days) in the Winelands for a change of scenery

How much to Pay....

A key question. Whilst rates vary at different times of year and with fluctuations in the exchange rate, the table below enables you to compare rates for different areas. The prices are for a nominally identical apartment or villa, but the reality is that in the more expensive areas the quality will be higher and the prices reflect it. High season is October to April with a surcharge for peak weeks around Christmas and New Year. The low/mid season is from May to September when great deals can be found.
