Located at the eastern entrance to Essaouira’s medina, this is a large historic Moroccan house restored in 2004 to offer the perfect blend of tradition and modern luxury and is now one of the most appealing hotels in Northern Africa.
Behind faded walls and through the unassuming entrance, this is a world of utter sophistication. The atmosphere of L'Heure-Bleue is definitely colonial, with great palms and teak sun loungers. The light stands are all fashioned to look like old camera tripods and it is touches like this that create the unique feel of this special palace. There is a luxurious inner courtyard off which several small rooms can be found, and where you can hide away from the heat of the sun. There is also an English lounge, billiards room, mini cinema with plush red velvet chairs and a Turkish hammam. If you fancy delving into a new book, take a moment to linger in the library. Rooms (16 doubles) and suites (19) are just amazing. Some are themed and all are fantastically comfortable and well-equipped. Each has a marbled en-suite bathroom with bathrobes and slippers and tempting bath and beauty products. One of most appealing aspects of this hotel is its roof terrace which has superb 360° views of the medina and Atlantic Ocean. A large pool is located on the terrace and provides a wonderful place to unwind after a long day. Dining here is a pleasure. Breakfast (included in the room price) can be taken in your room, on the terrace or in the dining room. Dinner can be eaten in the 30-seater restaurant or in the Moroccan lounge. Local and international cuisine are on offer from the French chef and his team. The staff are extremely helpful, discreet and very efficient and will cater to all your needs. Don’t hesitate to ask for advice on where to go and what to see in and around Essaouira. If travelling by car, you will need to park in one of the public parking spaces outside the medina and walk to the house, as no cars are allowed inside the medina walls. The property is located 190 km from Marrakech (& airport), 170 km from Agadir (& airport).
