It is not often we get so excited about a new property, but the Riad Mumtaz Mahal brings a new dimension to stylish accommodation in Essaouira. The original building was constructed in 1880 and over the last 4 years has been lovingly restored into a glorious Boutique hotel.

The location is perfect, in the old Medina just a few metres from Essaouira main square and a short stroll to the beach.

The two main attractions of Riad Mumtaz are the suites and the spa. If you prefer the more modern minimalist style of riad, then stop reading now. The designers of Mumtaz have gone to extraordinary lengths to create an exotic atmosphere with use of the “zellige” tiles and marble and a few more modern touches such as large panes of shower glass and mirror-work and the overall effect is unique and mesmerising.

One of the fun elements of staying is choosing which room to stay and to that end we have provided links with large photos for each of the room photos. They are all the same price but when booking, do mention a second choice in case the first is not available. As well as amazing styling the rooms are well equipped with TV’s, safe, air-conditioning, mini-bar and wifi. All suites have ensuite bathrooms with separate shower and a marble bath.

The spa is the second main attraction of Mumtaz and as well as a steam room and massage rooms there is a large atrium with heated plunge pool that guest can use unaccompanied.

Finally, there is a modest roof terrace where breakfast is served and you can sunbathe during the day. This has great views down the coast and of the beach.
