Riad Alkantara is an exceptional location within the walls of the medieval city of Fès; it is a hidden enchantment in the heart of a shaded area surrounded by 5 riads of different periods and architectural styles that have been restored with patience and passion to unite modern comfort and the splendours of the past in an exquisite alchemy.
The garden has a vast swimming pool surrounded by greenery and supplied with pure spring water, there are many fountains and patios, where you can relax and listen to the birds soothing singing.
At nightfall the delicate light breeze from the Atlas Mountains highlights the assorted fragrances of musk, jasmine and honeysuckle. The oriental sweetness and delicacy is revealed. In the vein of Italian theatre, the esplanades located at various levels are very well adapted to all types of events, whether cultural, artistic or just for amusement.
Riad Alkantara also has its lounge bar and smoking area on a shaded terrace, a restaurant where cuisine inspired from all over the world is served, traditional Moroccan cuisine which is served in the guest dining room, a shop selling traditional Moroccan clothes and decorative items, an exhibition area and creative workshops.
Located in the Douh quarter, in the heart of the Medina’s green circuit with gardens and ancient palaces. It’s a five minute walk from the Batha car parking or a 10 minute walk from Ziat and Boujloud Gates.
Close to the Ecole des Beaux Arts (ISMTB) and its magnificent gardens; to Dar Tazi, seat of the Fes Saïss association; to the Bouanania, famous 14th century mosque housing the first hydraulic clock; to the music conservatory and Talaa Kbira and Talaa Srera, the main arteries of the Medina.
Its only 15 minutes from Moulay Idriss and the medieval heart of the medina and 30 minutes from Fez airport.
Description of rooms
Le Sable et l'Écume, which has an extraordinary polychromatic, 6-metre high ceiling hoisted above intricate panels of chiselled muqarna plasterwork, this room is romantic with a capital 'R'. With vases of freshly cut roses, a carpet of rose petals strewn at the base of its bed, babouches and hooded bathrobes as well as monogrammed towels and Egyptian satin sheets and triple bank of feather pillows, it felt like Cupid's own room.
Le Jardin des Roses is also on the ground floor and has the same high ceilings: this room has a 4-poster though its bathroom is slightly smaller with a shower taking the place of a bath tub.
Les Amants de Grenade is another huge double with ornately carved wooden bedhead, easy chairs and tables. Its bathroom is reached down a flight of steps where you'll find a tub big enough for two.
Le Chant des Chants is also a splendidly ornate courtyard-facing suite with a 4-poster and fabulous bathroom finished in green, white and black zellig.
Citadelle is slightly smaller but still has plenty of space for slotting in a 4-poster bed: it has a smaller shower room with floor to ceiling golden-coloured tadlakt and a striking beijmat floor.
All of the suites' decorative style is similar to that of Le Sable et l'Écume with furnishings gathered on travels through the Mahgreb, India, Egypt and Syria as well as gorgeous hand-painted wardrobes: these were made in situ in Abdelfattah's joinery workshop to his own.
Note: Extra beds can be added in the suites
