The River House is a palatial 5 bed villa set in seven acres of lush garden with a large private pool and river frontage.

The house is situated in Balapitiya on the west coast of Sri Lanka, roughly half way between Galle and Bentota. Although some time ago, it was featured in Conde Nast Traveler's exclusive annual Hot List (May '05) making it the first ever Sri Lankan owned property to be featured in the prestigious listing.

The villa can sleep a total of 10 adults and 2 children, with four suites in the main house and a further self contained cottage situated just below the main house on the lower lawn. All rooms are fully a/c with en-suite bathrooms, drink coolers, tv/dvd players and private verandas. Three of the suites also come with private plunge pools with jacuzzi jets. The suites can be booked on an individual basis outside of peak season.

In the kitchen the emphasis is on traditional Sri Lankan cuisine to take advantage of fresh local produce, especially the seafood. However, the in-house chef will happily adapt his menu to suit western palates. Half or full board meal basis can be arranged on request.

A wide selection of wine is imported and stored carefully to ensure their quality in this tropical climate. If booking the property as a whole guests are invited to stock up with wines and spirits at Duty Free or before leaving Colombo if they have specific requirements.

While staying at the villa there is plenty to see and do. You can explore the river by boat, spend hours in Ambalangoda’s dusty antique shops looking for colonial treasures, visit the local turtle hatchery in Koggala or catch the coastal railway to Galle and walk the ramparts of the UNESCO Dutch Fort. Balapitya is also within easy reach of Hikkaduwa for a slightly livelier night out.
