The River House

The River House is a stunning new 5 bed villa on the west coast of Sri Lanka, which can be booked as a whole sleeping 10 adults and 2 children or on a room by room basis.

Situated in seven acres of immaculate gardens on the mouth of a Madhu Ganga, the house is quickly becoming one of Asia's most exclusive holiday venues. It has been featured in Conde Nast Traveler's exclusive annual Hot List (May '05) making it the first ever Sri Lankan owned property to be featured in the prestigious listing.

WHAT ITS GOT!

The River House has four suites in the main villa Singha, Dhanu, Thula and Kanya and a further room in the self contained Makara cottage situated just below the main house on the lower lawn. All rooms are fully a/c with en-suite bathrooms, drink coolers, tv/dvd players and private verandas. The Singha, Kanya and Makara suites also come with private plunge pools with jacuzzi jets.

FOOD & DRINKS

The emphasis is on traditional Sri Lankan cuisine to take advantage of fresh local produce, especially the seafood. However, the in-house chef will happily adapt his menu to suit slightly more timid western palates.

A wide selection of wine is imported and stored carefully at sister hotel "Taprobane" to ensure their quality in this tropical climate. Guests are invited to stock up with wines and spirits at Duty Free or before leaving Colombo if they have specific requirements.

Full board basis can be arranged on request.

FUN & GAMES

Relax in your private Jacuzzi under the stars, stroll down to the pavilion and take a dip in the glistening pool, or explore Ambalangoda’s antique labyrinths for Sri Lankan mementos. Or alternatively travel up river in your private motorboat to the local prawn farm to buy your dinner.

Balapitya is also within easy reach of the historic Dutch town of Galle, great for shopping and dinning, as well as the slightly livelier Hikkaduwa or Unawatuna for a youngsters night out.

ESSENTIAL EXTRAS

Suites can be rented individually with a minimum 2 night stay, however the size and character of River House is best enjoyed with a group with a minimum 3 night stay policy.

Children are very welcome, with friendly staff willing to look after them and interconnecting rooms that work well for families. Kanya and Singhe have day beds perfect for children to sleep on and cots are available on request. There is no shallow end however in the large pool.
