WHAT ITS GOT!
Each room is extremely spacious with adjoining private verandas and en-suites. There is no air-conditioning, but guests are encouraged to sleep with their French doors open to let the night air in and the ceiling fans keep you cool.
There is a huge swimming pool in the garden and fantastic scenery thanks to the bungalows extensive coconut palm plantation. This is a place for early nights and restful days and so there are no televisions or internet to be found at Horathapola, unless requested.
FOOD & DRINKS
The food is traditional Sri Lankan, cooked to the best possible standards and a good range of alcohol is served except on full moon days.
FUN & GAMES
Lazing by the pool and exploring the estate on the resident bullock cart. Wander around the nearby village temples and enjoy bicycle rides on the quiet village roads.
Take a trip to the west coast beaches, just a 30 minute drive away, or a daytrips to the ancient city of Panduwasnuwara and to the rock temple Yapahuwa.
DRAWBACKS
No really drawbacks apart from it's rural location, which will be ideal for some but not for those who want restaurants and nightlife.
No air-conditioning may put some people off, but it really isn't necessary.
