Built as a contemporary interpretation of a traditional Sri Lankan house and furnished with antique furniture, the 5 bedroom Victoria Villa is set in a coconut grove on the beach with landscaped gardens falling into the Indian Ocean, about 5 miles south of Galle.
WHAT ITS GOT
The Master bedroom has an attached dressing area. There are 3 other double bedrooms and 1 twin room. All beds are 4 poster with fitted mosquito nets and are cool with overhead fans. Each bedroom has a garden courtyard or access to the landscaped gardens.
The Master bedroom has an en suite bathroom with a tub and separate shower. 2 other bedrooms share an en suite bathroom with shower and the other double room has an attached bathroom with shower. The twin room has a separate bathroom with shower. The master and 2 other double rooms have access to private outdoor showers.
The sitting area is built around a wide and comfortable banquette and has views over the garden and out to sea. There is also a beach pavillion perched above the beach with uninterrupted views, ideal for morning tea, an afternoon nap or gin and tonics at sundown.
The villa has a 12 by 5 metre salt water pool centrally located to the front of the villa.
FOOD & DRINK
The dining room is enclosed and has a table set for 10. A full modern kitchen and a permanent staff of 3 including houseboy, cook and night watchman will look after your every need. They can provides excellent western dishes as well as fabulous curries. Discuss your requirements with the cook. Breakfast of fruit; juices; local delicacies as well as tea (of course) is provided. For all other meals you will need to purchase the necessary ingredients. This can be done by either going to one of the daily fish, fruit and veg markets yourself or providing the cook with some cash and he will do it. He will keep an account of expenditure for your inspection. There is a small supermarket in Galle where most basic western items can be purchased.
FUN & GAMES
Lying 8kms from the historic town of Galle famous for the Dutch Fort Victoria is perfectly placed for those who want to escape and close enough to venture forth and experience the sights and smells of a part of this magical island, with its daily fish and fruit and veg markets. The Fort, largely built by the Dutch in the 1660s is itself is undergoing something of a renaissance and restaurants and shops are appearing. Galle is the traditional home of jewellery design and manufacture in Sri Lanka and there is no shortage of shops that will offer you a wide variety of stones as well as making your designs.
