The villa sits directly on the beach in Thalpe, approximate 5 hours south of the airport and 20mins from the Galle Fort.
WHAT ITS GOT
The main villa has three large airy bedrooms furnished with four poster beds, elegantly designed open air en-suite bathrooms and shuttered French doors.
There is a comfortable living room, separate dining pavilion, games room with snooker table and a garden seating area.
The two additional bedrooms can be found in the garden extension completed during the last renovation in 2008. They are both a good size with en-suite bathrooms and a private balcony/veranda patio. The upstairs room has an especially nice view over the garden and to the sea.
The villa has a good sized pool and direct access onto the beach. It is not possible to swim directly in front of the villa due to a shallow reef, but there are inlets for swimming just yards away. Nearby Unawatuna, Mirissa and Weligama Bay also offer safe swimming and snorkelling for most of the year.
FOOD & DRINK
The villa is staffed with a cook, a housekeeper, and a night watchman. Both Western dishes and Sri Lankan rice and curry are served. Discuss your menus with the cook and he will ensure that fresh fruit, vegetables, and seafood from the daily catch is prepared to your liking. The south coast is famous for its fishing and so why not go to the boats as they come in and select dinner yourself.
As far as eating out this villa is in the best possible location with numerous boutique hotels to try and local restaurants.
Soft drinks will be provided at the villa, but it is better to buy your own alcohol or give as much advanced warning as possible in order for them to source any special requests.
FUN & GAMES
Just 20 minutes away is the historic Galle Fort, a UNESCO-protected World Heritage site and a melting pot of cultural influences. Several hours can be spent wandering along narrow streets, well-preserved ramparts overlooking the cricket stadium, the lighthouse, and browsing through antique shops.
For the more adventurous, a jeep safari to the Yala or Uda Walawe wildlife parks or trip to Sinharajah rain forest may appeal. Hot air ballooning can also be arranged, along with deep sea fishing, snorkelling and ship wreck diving.
DRAWBACKS
As with most coastal villas there can be some noise from the road, but this is generally drowned out by the sea.
