Kadju House is one of several more contemporary beach villas springing up along Sri Lanka's coastline, as young local architects are given the opportunity to showcase their talents and pull away from the more colonial design elements commonly seen in Sri Lankan homes.
WHAT ITS GOT
Much of the open plan living space at Kadju House is one the first floor veranda and enjoys spectacular views of Seenimodera Bay. The veranda leads on to the pool deck which then blends into the villas 36ft long infinity pool. On the ground floor there is an intimate dining area and indoor living room. Uncut granite floors, cement, glass and steel features are blended with vibrant colours, mood lighting and timber furniture, to give the villa a simple yet luxurious ambience.
Kadju House has four en-suite bedrooms all with sea and garden views. The bedrooms are comfortably furnished with beds dressed in colourful fine linen and fitted with mosquito netting. Each of the en-suite bathrooms is individually designed and opens out to tranquil private gardens with lily ponds and frangipani trees. The rooms are not air-conditioned but due to their open plan design, large windows and elevated position upon the hill cool breezes fill the rooms.
Sea Suite: Located on the upper floor, the Sea Suite has a private balcony with sweeping views of the gardens, the headland and the Indian Ocean beyond. The en-suite bathroom has a bath tub and hot water shower.
Courtyard Suite: Opening out on to its own private garden with a cashew and frangipani tree and lotus-filled pond, this suite also has its own deck and views of the sea. The en-suite bathroom has an outdoor shower where you can shower under the shade of a flowering frangipani tree.
Pool Suite: The Pool Suite offers complete privacy from the rest of the house and has sea views from its private deck. The bathroom has glass walls allowing a glimpse of the turquoise seas from the shower.
Garden Suite: The Garden Suite is furnished with twin beds and is ideal for children. Opening out to the garden, this suite is equipped with its own TV, DVD player. The en-suite bathroom has a bath tub situated next to a lotus-filled pond.
The villa's gardens are ideal for reading and there is a small living room library. The secluded and private beach below the house is on a cove and is ideal for body-boarding and swimming in calm conditions all year round.
Kadju House even has a spa pavilion with Cinnamon-infused walls and provides a range of Ayurvedic relaxing treatments supervised by an experienced Ayurvedic physician. For guests interested in total mind and body relaxation, private yoga lessons are organized with prior notice.
FOOD & DRINK
Meal times at Kadju House are flexible and are served at the dining table indoors, in the garden under the shade of a cashew tree, by the pool side or on the beach under the stars. Sri Lankan and European cuisine is served, prepared with fresh fruit and vegetables from the villa's own gardens and other groceries purchased from the local market. Fresh sea food including lobster, crab, and prawns are purchased directly each day from the fishing boats as they come in from the sea.
FUN & GAMES
The owner of Kadju House has worked hard to build a strong relationship with the small village community of Seenimodera close to the villa. Through this he can now offer his guests a number of fun and interactive local activities such as cookery courses with the village women, hauling in the evening catch with the fishermen and village walks. These experiences give guests the chance to really understand and learn about the traditional Sri Lankan way of life. Guests are escorted on all activities by a member of staff from the house.
Kadju House is also a fantastic destination for animal lovers. Not only is the garden teaming with different bird species, but you are in close proximity to Yala National Park for leopard spotting, Ude Walawe National Park for wild elephant safaris, Dondra Head where you can go whale and dolphin watching and near to the Rekawa Turtle Conservation Projects.

ESSENTIAL EXTRAS
Kadju House is located in Tangalle on the South coast of Sri Lanka. Transfer times from the airport can be up to 6-7hours. We therefore recommend that guests spend their first night near Colombo. The next day can then be taken at a leisurely pace as you make your way south. You can break up the journey with a ride along the coastal railway, lunch in the Galle Fort and a stop at a turtle hatchery conservation centre. This is a much more civilised option and offers a great introduction to the life of the country.
WHAT OTHERS THOUGHT
"As we drove up the bumpy rutted track to Kadju and saw the stark concrete block we wondered what we were coming to. But the villa and the situation are stunning. Sameera and the team looked after us superbly and Anton's cooking was so good that we didn't bother to leave." (Chris Hawkings - March 09)
