Offering simplistic luxury The Frangipani Tree is a relaxed beach front hotel just 15 minutes from the historic heritage city of Galle.

WHAT ITS GOT

The accommodation is divided into four detached villas, each of which is named after one of Sri Lanka’s endangered marine turtle species - Hawksbill, Leatherback, Loggerhead, Olive Ridley.

Hawksbill - is a free standing villa with two ocean-view suites, each of which have private outdoor living spaces, a covered verandah with private dining table and open air bathrooms enhanced by enclosed tropical gardens. These two suites are interconnecting.

Leatherback - is a free standing villa with two ocean-view suites, each of which have private outdoor living spaces with sofa beds, pool loungers and dining tables. The en-suite bathrooms are open air and enhanced by enclosed tropical gardens. These two suites are interconnecting.

Loggerhead - is a one bedroom villa that overlooks the 35m lap pool and the ocean beyond. It features a platform bed and a bathroom with bathtub and hot water shower.

Olive Ridley - is a two storey villa beside the pool that contains five suites as well as the hotel's living room and main dining area. Two suites on the first floor benefit from sweeping ocean views while the rest are located on the ground floor and look onto a frangipani tree lined courtyard.

All rooms have high airy ceilings, polished cement floors and white-washed walls. They have been stylishly furnished with Sri Lankan custom-made pieces such as stainless steel four-poster beds, wooden work desks, built-in sofa beds enhanced by brightly striped cushions and Geoffrey Bawa-designed leather chairs. The large beds are framed by soft mosquito netting, cushioned by the softest linen and enhanced by a unique pillow menu to tailor to each individual guest.

The airy and spacious en-suite bathrooms feature cement bathtubs, hot water rain showers and plenty of exclusive toiletries.

The hotel has a 35ft elongated lap pool and a tennis court.

FOOD & DRINK

The Frangipani Tree has a mediterranean-inspired fusion menu that includes plenty of fresh seafood bought straight from the market. Seared yellow fin tuna, lobster Carpaccio and spicy grilled squid. There is a day menu of light snacks and salads such as prawn curry, green gazpacho soup or hummus with tahini and home-made pita bread. Then a more extensive dinner menu including Sri Lankan Curries, Moroccan Lamb Tagine and Tabbouleh. Delicious cakes, puddings and pavlovas are available for dessert.

The main dining table seats up to 20, but guests are welcome to eat wherever they choose. On the sweeping verandah, on the beach, in the garden or in the privacy of their own suite. Guests are welcome to eat at any time of day or evening, there are no set meal times.

FUN & GAMES

Frangipani Tree is about 15 minutes from the historic town of Galle containing two of Sri Lankan's famous sites. The World Heritage 300 year old Galle Fort largely built by the Dutch, and the Galle International Cricket Pitch.

Several scuba diving schools in the area will take you to wrecks and reefs and you can go whale and dolphin watching from Mirissa. There are also several local turtle hatcheries and the hotel will arrange day excursions to Yala Safari Park on request.
