WHAT ITS GOT
In the Maldives bigger is definitely better to ensure guests don't begin to feel claustrophobic during their stay. It also allows for more facilities and eateries as demonstrated by Anantara which has 2 spas and no less than seven restaurants - 1 for every day of the week!!
Anantara have cleverly used the three islands it occupies to cater to all guests. The first island - Dhigufinolhu - is the largest of the three and has a relaxed atmosphere recommended for families. This is where all guests will arrive and where the main reception is located. This island has 68 beach front villas with 2 deluxe pool suites and 38 over water bungalows again with 2 deluxe pool suites.
The second island - Veligandu Huraa - is reserved for adults only, although open to everyone for dining. It has a sophisticated air of tropical chic that is likely to appeal to hip 25s - 50s. This island only has overwater bungalows.
The third island - Naladhu - is not heavily referred to on the Anantara website the aim of which is to maintain the exclusivity and privacy of this luxury 6 star villa only island. The villas on this island are all identical, with interiors that offer a contemporary twist on old colonial luxury. The villas come with a separate hall, dressing area, study and main bedroom, as well as a private pool, deck, open air bathroom and 2 showers. The island is only accessible to guests staying on Naladu, unless by invitation. Our assessment would be expensive, but worth every penny if your budget will allow!!
Well thought out Anantara has something for everyone and while part of a chain the resort manages to feel unbranded and almost like an independent boutique resort.
FOOD & DRINK
Anantara has no fewer than seven restaurants - There is a Thai option, Italian, Seafood Grill, Relaxed Bistro, Maldivian Cafe, Pizza Bar, 2 poolside bars as well as dine by design where guests can enjoy a private dining experience anywhere on the resort including a sand bank in the middle of the lagoon. Then of course there is room service and full in room bars for each bungalow which can be stock with wines etc... of your choosing prior to arrival.
FUN & GAMES
The Maldives is obviously ideal or diving and snorkelling, both of which the resort can easily arrange. There is a wide range of water sports on offer and day trips out to deserted islands or the capital Male for a spot of shopping. For something more relaxed the resort has 2 internationally regarded spas to choose from and a kid club so that mum and dad have time to enjoy it.
