Huge luxury villa on an up and coming stretch of Sri Lanka's southern coast. The main house can be booked separately sleeping 6 or the whole villa sleeps 11-12.
This villa is ideal for a large family or group for friends, with lots of different wings to offer privacy and space. The area is still rather undeveloped but as such outstandingly beautiful with lush vegetation and deserted beaches.
WHAT ITS GOT
4 double rooms, 1 twin, and a nannies room/extra childs room. All rooms are en-suite, with ceiling fans and antique furniture.
The communal living areas are all open air with huge cushioned sofas and benches, a veranda that raps itself around both floors of the villa and a huge dinning room where everyone can eat round one carved wooden table.
The garden is mainly lawned and very flat which is ideal for children. It roles down directly onto the beach with views out onto the Indian ocean. The pool is an excellent size and privately positioned in the courtyard behind the villa.
FOOD & DRINK
The villa is fully staffed and headed up by manager Ananda who is also an excellent cook.
Unfortunately while we were there we experienced a power cut which affected most of the south coast, but dinner was still a delight. The villa came alive with candles and lanterns and the food was absolutely spot on. We were served spicy pumpkin soup, followed by chicken and mango salsa and then fruit salad to finish. If the food was good with chefs cooking by touch light and no electricity it must be exceptional under normal circumstances.
Alcohol must be ordered in advance but this is easily done before you travel.
Food is sold at cost price to guests which is a lovely gesture on behalf of the management and therefore works out very reasonably. They charge £26 per head per day which includes breakfast, lunch, a three course dinner, all soft drinks and alcohol.
FUN & GAMES
The Last House is fairly isolated and so this is really just for people who want to completely relax and enjoy each others company. Somewhere where children will be totally safe and so parents can have some really time out.
The beach is excellent all year round and there are areas in the bay suitable for swimming even during the monsoon season. There is a huge box of board games and pool toys for children, but there is no tv/dvd which would be good for quite nights.
The villa has its own tuk tuk, but to really get out and about you will have to hire a car.
Yala and Ude Walawe National Parks can be reached in a day, as well as Bundala Bird Sanctuary 45 mins away. Hot air ballooning is an option at Ude Walawe as well as a visit to the elephant transit camp. The Tangalle coast line is also sprinkled with turtle hatcheries which as best visited on a full moon night.
DRAWBACKS
Some may feel a little isolated this far round the coast, so it is important to bring company and entertainment with you. The Last House is absolutely perfect for family gathering and friendly reunions.
No local restaurants or gift shops to pop out to.
6-7 hours from the airport, but there is now the option to get the air taxi to Koggala lake which will substantially reduce travel times.
Could do with a TV to keep kids occupied while the adults enjoy dinner.
WHAT OTHERS THOUGHT
Nothing to report as yet...fancy being the first???
ESSENTIAL EXTRAS
Children of all ages are welcome but please note that cots and extra beds are not provided by the Last House. There is a small 6th room which is perfect for a child.
