Built by a French Artictect Walter Lang as a romantic 50th Birthday tribute to his beloved wife, the villa was fashioned on a 'wallawa' - Sri Lanka Manor House.
WHAT ITS GOT
The main body of the house is in fact not that large which is nice and provides a relaxed homely feel. Having said that vast double height ceiling in the main living area can't help but provide an impressive feeling of gradeur. As too does the fabulous terrace with leads on from the living area and commands 180 degree elevated ocean views.
The villa has 4 bedrooms, consisting of 3 doubles and 1 twin which lead of from the four courners of the living area. All are air-conditioned and have ensuite bathrooms. Old painted Indian temple doors, antique bookcases, woven coconut lining and floaty four poster beds create an aura of romance and tranquility.
The house also has a secret fifth bedroom which can be utilised by guests at an additional cost. Originally intended as Lang's study but never completed, the current owners only found the vaulted cellar- like room by accident. It runs under the outdoor terrace where you would never know it look. Extremely stylish and also a bit of fun, this room would appeal to a romancing couple or older children who would be ok to sleep alone.
Back inside the main living room in case you somehow manage to tire of the breathataking view there is another hidden gem. A secret door just past the main door, leads to a ship's staircase that was added to create access to a snug tucked into the upper reaches of a monumental arch. It overlooks the sitting room and houses a modern home theatre complete with projector.
Outside, pristine white steps lead from the main house and vantage point to a terraced garden. On the lower terrace a long infinty pool and sun patio is the perfect place to spend long realxing days. ALterntively a set of steeper steps sweep down the cliff to another manicured lawn, private sala and a gate onto the beach. Although the beach is not privately owned it is only used by the local fishermen and their families.
FOOD & DRINK
Without one of the most memorable curries i have very had in sri lanka, both for the taste and also the exquiate surrounds in which it was eaten.
