Amanpuri - FPA001
Surin Beach, Bangkok

Bedrooms: 40, Sleeps 80
Price Guide: £400 - £500 per room per night

Amanpuri was the first Aman resort to grace the planet and as such is somewhat legendary. It is hugely expensive, but also truly stunning and will make you feel like royalty.

The resort sits on its very own peninsula surrounded on all sides by the Andaman Sea with huge coconut palms soaring overhead. They will celebrate a 20th Anniversary this year and but yet doesn't look even slightly dated thanks to the sympathetic construction of its pavilions and retains its popularity through impeccable service.
,br> WHAT ITS GOT

Amanpuri has 40 pavilions all with outdoor sala, a king-size bed, separate bath and shower, refrigerator with minibar, electronic safe, stereo system, IDD services and air-conditioning. Wireless broadband connections are available in all resort accommodation and public areas. Pavillion rates can differ slightly from one another according to view and location.

Adjacent to the main resort, almost hidden by coconut palms, are 30 Villa Homes, ranging from two to six separate bedrooms. Each villa enjoys a private pool plus living and dining Thai salas. A live-in maid and cook look after everything guests could possible want.

FOOD & DRINK

The food we tried at Amanpuri as with most Aman's was close to perfect. We ate at The Terrace and opted for a light lunchtime dish of Chinese beef with ginger and spring onion served with sweet sticky rice. This was followed by a chocolate torte and a complimentary pot of rose blossom tea (We didn't have our travel agent hats on that day, so this little extra wasn't purely for effect!).

There are three restaurants at Amanpuri. The Terrace with a casual, Thai and European all-day dining menu. The Restaurant which serves Italian and then recently Naoki became Amanpuri's newest restaurant which serves Chef Naoki Okumura's original French Kaiseki - combining the best of French techniques with a Japanese sense of artistry.

From late November to April there is also the option to have a torch-lit barbeque on the beach for up to 30 guests. Room service is available, 24 hours a day, with private dinning available in the your own pavilion or outdoor salas.

The Bar offers poolside drinks and snacks and at sunset, several brass tables and rattan-backed chairs are set out around the pool to enjoy the end of the day. A cocktail bar and lounge seating is also available at the Beach Club. BR>
FUN & GAMES

Cruises - Amanpuri has a tailor-made selection of cruise experiences from half or full-day excursions around the islands off Phuket or for overnight stays on trips further afield. Picnic excursions and romantic dinners for two are very popular as are four-day-long PADI-certified scuba diving courses.

Swimming pools - Amanpuri’s 27m freshwater swimming pool is finished in midnight-blue tiling. There is an additional pool to be found at the Pansea Beach Club, a new arrival at Amanpuri.

Spa - The extensive Aman Spa menu includes a range of healing therapies as well as traditional treatments such as facials, body wraps, scrubs and baths. Complimentary guided yoga and meditation sessions are also available at daybreak in the hillside salas.

Fitness Centre - Amanpuri has a state of the art gym with spectacular views of the Andaman Sea. Cardio work machines are equipped with satellite TV screens and experienced gym staff are available for assistance. A juice bar on the first floor provides refreshing smoothies and blended juices. Frankly it just sounds like somewhere great to hang out, let alone do any exercise!!

Tennis - Amanpuri offers six floodlit courts. Playing partners and equipment are available and professional coaching is offered from November to April.

Shopping - Just in case you decide you didn't bring enough clothes a tailor is available and guests may choose from a large selection of fabric. Fittings can be arranged in the privacy of the pavilions.
