The Library

The Library is a wonderful new hotel truly worth endorsing because of the excellent example it sets for developers and expansion of tourism on Koh Samui.

WHAT ITS GOT

For a start the hotel is Thai owned and Thai designed, which make a refreshing change with so many foreign investors present in Koh Samui. The architecture is fresh and clean, moving away from the traditional Thai styles which when done badly can look instantly dated and almost theme park like. In fact the design of this hotel is so minimalistic that you would expect it to be the work of a Japanese or perhaps Swedish architect. At the same time the designer has injected quirky bits of humour to lift the mood, such as the red tiled swimming pool, bright orange room/'page' numbers set into the lawn and the white ceramic 'blob men' positioned around the outdoor areas to suggest ways in which you could spend your time.

The location of this hotel is also very refreshing. Boldly situated at the very centre of Chaweng Beach, which rather unfairly has a somewhat mixed reputation. Without doubt the most stunning bay on the island, with beautiful beach, safe waters and some great restaurants hopefully projects like The Library can help lead the way in Chaweng's rejuvenation.

The hotel itself sits on a 6,400 square metres plot with 50 metres of beachfront. The double storey accommodation forms a U-shape around a central lawn with a decked pathway leading through the property. The hotel's main facilities are all located on the beachfront and set around the stunning and extremely unusual red tiled swimming pool. To the right is the grey-tone restaurant named 'The Page' with a decked dinning platform on the beach. On the left is the glass fronted ultra modern 'The Library unit' and fitness centre. The library as you would expect has an excellent selection of books, DVD's and music. There is also a computer room.

There are 2 categories of room. The Suites are located on the ground floor with direct access onto the garden and the Studios are on the level above, with private balconies.

The Suites have an open-air living room with day bed and writing desk, protected by a wooden adjustable shutter and a sliding glass door which separates this area from an air-conditioned bedroom. Green lawn garden with two sun loungers are set in front of the living room. The suites can sleep up to 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 children.

- iMac with broadband connection
- a Jacuzzi and rain shower in white bathroom
- Black furniture with stylish design
- Oversize light box at your choice to create theme colour of your room.

The Studios have a private balcony that allow for some sea view. Two sun loungers are set on the balcony. Facilities are similar to the Suite except a square-shape bathtub is provided in bathroom area. The studios are unsuitable for children, however can accommodate up to three adults.

FOOD & DRINK

The Page restaurant is perfectly situated and looks lovely by night with the floor to ceiling wooden shutters push right back to create and indoor/outdoor experience. Chef Den has been with the hotel since its creations and while he specialises in Italian cuisine, the restaurant offers a wide range of European dishes. Thai cuisine also features on the menu bringing in flavours of a Thai touch for guests to enjoy.

If you wish to dine out there are numerous options in Chaweng and across the island.

Breakfast is not included in the nightly room rate.

LOCATION, FUN & GAMES

ESSENTIAL EXTRAS

Every room features one master bedroom. Maximum 3 adults or 2 adults sharing with 2 children under 12 are allowed for each room. Extra person charge : Baht 1,600+++ per person (breakfast excluded).

Family with children will be assigned to the Suite rooms on the ground floor only, as the studios are unsafe.

Airport pickup service : Baht 500 net per car per way.

Honeymooners will receive a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine upon presentation of the appropriate Wedding documentation on arrival.

Free use of non-motorized water sports, fitness and the Library for all guests.
